Gran Torino = mundo

O filme mais Ciminiano do Eastwood. Disparado.

Stanley White; Walt Kowalski; farinhas do mesmo saco.

Deux polonais, deux guerres asiatiques, deux sales caractères, deux échecs familiaux (plus marqué chez White), deux racismes, deux intransigeances. C'est tout à fait ce que je pense.

The most interesting aspect for me however is the one which ends separating both films: the question of sacrifice. In Cimino's film it's White's pupil, Herbert Kwong, who sacrifices himself because of White's intransigence (much to the latter regret of White, who admired him enormously even though he treated the kid like shit); in Eastwood's film Kowalski ends up sacrificing not only himself but his intransigence, leaving the room for his young "pupil" as it were.

I cannot even remember how many times I thought of Cimino during the projection. It felt like shot after shot, I tell you.
